If You Smell Gas

If you smell gas – attempt to turn off the gas flow to the fireplace by locating the gas shutoff (usually in your wall or floor) and turning the key all the way to the right. Most gas shutoffs are located in the same room as the fireplace, however, occasionally they are located on the wall behind the fireplace (in another room), or even in a garage or outside. Open windows to let the gas dissipate and step outside before calling PG&E at 1-800-743-5000.

Note: Most gas leaks are caused by issues with the gas line (plumbing) going into the firebox – and aren’t usually caused by the pilot valves. PG&E can determine where exactly the leak is coming from. If it is found to be coming from the valve on the gas log system, we can work with you to repair it. If the leak is coming from the plumbing pipes, then we can recommend a plumber who can assist you with this repair.
